The Monster Inside
colour film, 2013, 2’51’’
Combining archival footage, underwater photography, graphic designs, and reworked animation, The Monster Inside discusses the grieving process. Its aim is to make visible when the sharp pain and suffering related to the death of a loved one leaves room for the happiness to have known them. This is shown in visual metaphors borrowed from the marine and lunar worlds, and explorations in Double 8 camera archives. To evoke mourning the figure of Medusa is used as a metaphor, both shimmering and worrying, to transmit the fear of death and the memory of happy days.
The original music was composed by Linda Olah and Giani Caserotto.
